Eighteen months ago, Te Tai Tokerau Northland faced the largest emergency it had seen in a generation. This led to the largest Recovery that Northland Civil Defence Emergency Management has coordinated in its 25-year history.

This report captures just some of the Recovery work that has been completed to 30 June 2024. This report includes work by Northland CDEM, Councils, and government agencies, as well as community organisations, marae, sports groups, churches and faith communities, the business and rural sectors, critical infrastructure providers, and others.

While titled a ‘final’ report, there is still some work to go – whether repairing roads and water pipes, ongoing community resilience projects, and so on.

He also acknowledges that while Cyclone Gabrielle is well in the rear-vision mirror for many people, for others, there are outstanding issues with insurance, housing, children being scared of rain events, and more. As Northland CDEM Chair Kelly Stratford says in her mihi mihi to this report, we acknowledge those who are still feeling the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle. We also acknowledge the other regions who were affected by last year’s weather events.
