The Māori Electoral Option is for everyone who whakapapa Māori/of Māori descent.  BEFORE 31 March 2023, Māori could change/switch rolls – Māori Roll, General Roll – every 5 to 6 years.  Legislation was passed last year and as of 1 April 2023, Māori can change/switch rolls any time.

However, if there is a General Election – like there is on 14 October 2023, Māori must change/switch rolls 3 months before the election date.  So, Māori have up to midnight, 13 July 2023 to change/switch rolls.
